EXPLORE THE DATA ECOSYSTEM

The Centre was founded in 1958 as All-Union Foot-and-Mouth Disease Research Institute (AUFMDRI). Starting with the name a lot has changed since then: the number of research laboratories has increased, new research areas have been revealed, the epidemic situation is being monitored, further forecasts are made and disease outbreaks are eradicated. Researchers of the Centre participate in disease eradication and prevention nearly all over the world; they are in close contact with leading Veterinary Institutions of Great Britain, France, Poland, Finland, Germany, Italy, China, Mongolia and CIS states.

The World Organization for Animal Health (OIE) gave two international statuses to the Centre: OIE Regional Reference Laboratory for Foot-and-Mouth Disease (1995) and OIE Collaborating Centre for Diagnosis and Control of Animal Diseases for Eastern Europe, Central Asia and Transcaucasia (1997). Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) gave a status of FAO Reference Centre for Foot-and-Mouth Disease for Central Asia and Western Eurasia to the FGBI “ARRIAH” (2013).

Currently about 800 highly qualified experts including 9 Doctors of Science and 121 Candidates of Science work in the Centre. Crucial role in solving the assigned tasks is given to the young scientists who are capable of performing research at an up-to-date level and mastering relative information and methods for development of technologies competitive in the market of diagnostic products and vaccines.
